🎯 Project Goals
Mistral Street is a short one-way block that currently suffers from frequent abuse and neglect, including inadequate sidewalk and pedestrian facilities, poor lighting, and persistent issues with trash and illegal dumping. The street's current condition creates a poor environment for pedestrians, neighbors, community members, students, and families, and is particularly problematic given its proximity to John O'Connell High School.
- Stormwater Management: Introduce permeable surfaces and green infrastructure to divert stormwater runoff
- Increased Space for People: Redesign the street to prioritize pedestrian access and safety
- Community Space: Create a welcoming environment for community gatherings, events, and positive social interaction
- Arts & Culture: Incorporate multi-modal artistic installations from community members, potentially including student-created work
- Youth Engagement: Meaningfully engage with students, young people, and the John O'Connell High School community through curriculum integration and collaborative projects
- Safety & Lighting: Improve lighting and create a safe, supervised presence to address current issues with illicit activities
- Environmental Beautification: Transform a neglected space into a green, attractive area that inspires community pride
